Elk River Estuary Enhancement Project
A Thanksgiving day early morning hike on a new recently opened trail in Eureka, CA.
A Eureka Waterfront Trail one mile extension project that begins at the south end of the Kikshari' Trail. We started at the Herrick Avenue Park & Ride (the official trailhead for this section), and hiked down to the end and back. We then hiked a mile or so up the Hikshari' trail and then back to the truck (no pictures of that section).

Lake Sonoma South Lake Trail Hike
To though hike this trail (about 10 miles) you need to set up a shuttle. I was out by myself, so dod an out-and-back.
Total miles: 10.1

Lake Sonoma Trout Action
The shad have moved to the surface and are accessible from shore.
When I arrived, fish were feeding/rolling all over. Two hours of casting shad fly patterns produced nothing, so I switched to a weighted steelhead spinner and caught this beauty after a few casts. 16-18 inches and released alive.
Another hour of casting flies and lures but didn't get another strike, even though the fish were still there.
Fun outing, great weather, no else around. Might just go back next Monday.
