October 20-22 - Eastern Sierra Shore Fishing

A few days of shore fishing at Twin Lakes, Lundy Lake, and Convict Lake, and camping along the way.

Twin Lakes

I don't often use bait while shore fishing, but when I do, it's Berkeley Gulp! pinched crawlers. :)

Fun Day On The McCloud River

We got in a McCloud River Trail hike, casting small spinners for trout, cooling off in the river, and disbursed camping that night in the Modoc National Forest. Pretty much avoided the July 4th holiday crowds with strategic planning. 😁

Letts Lake Sortie

We made a quick day trip up to see what Letts Lake Looks like after the wildfire a couple years ago, and to see how the fishing was.

Fire Conditions - The forest in that area burn a lot. It looks like the Forest Service is still working on cleaning up burned and fallen trees, and rebuilding the campground areas.

Fishing - Slow. We tried bait and lures. Took kayaks to fly fish out of, but the wind started blowing pretty hard a short while after we arrived. The lake has a serious weed growth problem that needs addressing to get it back to how it was back-in-the-day.

We might have been able to clear this dead-fall, but there was deep snow 200 feet beyond.

Fish Arsenal Added

I've added two new fly lines to my 6 weight outfit. Couldn't pass up this Black Friday or Cyber Monday or some fooking sale. $40 for one, got the other for free. A $130 value. Website link below.

The Peach/Orange line is a floating 6 weight with a short shooting taper head for fishing balanced leech, chironomid, etc. under an indicator on stillwater.
The black/Lime line is just a standard Sink-Tip Type 5 with a shooting head for getting a little deeper on stillwater, or nymph fishing deeper runs on rivers or streams for trout and/or steelhead.
