A nice early morning hike out to the Point Reyes coast via the Abbotts Lagoon Trail. Labor Day Weekend so we went early and had (more) coffee on the beach. Nice morning with fog and no wind. The salmon fleet was working the area right off shore.

I can see us going back to hike the secluded dunes and wetlands surrounding the lagoon as the fog lifts and the days turn sunny and mild later this month and into October.

* Point Reyes Low Tide Hike

June 26, 2021 - Nick, Melanie, Silo and Milo.

This was a repeat of the fun low tide hike we have done several times in the past. There must be at least a -1.5 tide, so there are only a handful of opportunities each year where you can safely make it through and/or around many obstacles. It's a very early start, but only takes about three hours to complete...and that's if you hob nob around, which is part of the fun.

Start: McClures Beach Trailhead

Finish: Kehoe Beach Trailhead

Distance: 4.0 miles along seashore

Tide Height: Must be -1.5 or lower (start 1 hour before low tide at McClures Beach trailhead)

Tide Height: -1.9 @ 7:06am

Hike Time: 3 hours

As far as difficulty, this trip was the easiest it has ever been as far as getting through the obstacles. The -1.9 tide was part of it, but the "trough" was filled in with sand and was only about knee deep. The approach to the Keyhole was again, only about knee deep. Usually, because the Keyhole is towards the end of the hike, it can get challenging making to the chute with the serge and waves rolling in. This year it seemed calm and was an easier stroll.
