* Here We Go Again...

In progress, the second largest wildfire in California history.

Soco Emergency - LNU Complex Wildfire

Communities along Highway 101 through the wine country are being threatened, as well as the Russian River communities towards the coast, by the Walbridge fire. It has also burned a large area around our favorite local hiking area Lake Sonoma.

Like everywhere, resources are spread thin and they are only at 17% contained as of Sunday morning 8/23.

These pictures and video are pull from the web. These are not our photos or video.

We have been lucky to have the Global SuperTanker working this fire for the last couple days. This picture is from the Lake Sonoma fire.

 This video is retardant dumps at Lake Sonoma by the Supertanker.

* Sharp Point Hike

At Humboldt Lagoons State Park. About six miles round trip.

From the Dry Lagoon Day Use Area, we hiked up to and climbed Sharp Point that juts out into the Pacific. On the northern side of the point, there is about a one mile beach hike to reach Stone Lagoon.

* Stone Lagoon Paddle

At Humboldt Lagoons State Park in Humboldt County.

Leisurely paddle with a little fishing. Broke a fly rod while launching so ended up just casting lures...with no luck. We will have to return with a better plan soon.

This lagoon holds sea-run Cutthroat Trout and Steelhead. Special regulations apply, but the old tactics of trolling flies will work. They are beautiful fish.

* Ma-Le'l Dunes North Hike

 At the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge near Arcata, CA.

We did a Hout Trail/Kimuk Trail loop out to the ocean. Rather short...about two miles, but it was a nice stroll down the breach a ways. There are a lot of Sand Dollars washed ashore in this area.
