* Ma-Le'l Dunes North Hike

 At the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge near Arcata, CA.

We did a Hout Trail/Kimuk Trail loop out to the ocean. Rather short...about two miles, but it was a nice stroll down the breach a ways. There are a lot of Sand Dollars washed ashore in this area.

* Arcata to Gil's on Humboldt Bay

We are continually amazed at the quality people we meet kayaking...especially in the Humboldt County kayaking community in Northern California. We met these three strangers at the Arcata Marsh boat launch on Humboldt Bay Saturday morning, paddled 10 miles with them, had lunch together, and by the end of the afternoon had made three new paddling friends, been invited to stay at their homes whenever we head back up that way, and laid out initial plans for some future trips together (kayaking and otherwise).

Just when I think humanity has gone in the shitter, we venture back up to this little gem on the far Northern Coast of California and discover that, yeah...there is still hope!

Arcata Marsh to Gil's Restaurant in the little community of King Salmon just south of Eureka, CA. 10 miles one way.

With Marcia and Simeon, Scott, Silo and Milo.
