* In Search of Fossil Cave

At the trail head at sunrise.

The first two miles were along a maintained service road.

Looking back North toward the town of Tule Lake.

The distant Mount Shasta.

We locate the area of the unmaintained service road we want to follow into the wilderness.

Wilderness Splattski with Schonchin Butte in the background.

Marcie searches for caves along a lava flow.

Bushwack hell three miles out with packs full of climbing/caving gear.

This is what happened to the last mammal that ventured into these parts.

Defeated this time, we start the trudge out.
