* Trinity Alps Backpacking with Wedding Cake

We spent three days over the 4th of July weekend enjoying the Canyon Creek drainage in the Trinity Alps, which included hot temperatures, waterfalls to cool off in, lakes to swim in, and climbing 8592 foot Wedding Cake.

The highlight was the Wedding Cake Peak climb, which ended up being about six miles round trip and about 3000 feet of elevation gain from camp. Carl Hlavenka, Marcie, and Sam summited, with Asami Kasuya getting honorary summit status for an outstanding performance on her first backcountry peak climb. Carl went on to climb 8994 foot Thompson Peak for a two peak day.

Canyon Creek is a beautiful, lush canyon with several waterfalls and surrounded by high granite peaks, and is one of the more popular trailheads in the Trinity Alps.
